Bringing Worship into Nature, and Nature into Worship

The Sanctuary and Memorial Garden will be a space that affirms God’s revealed presence in nature. It will be:

-
A gathering space for small services of worship, baptism, commemoration, and education.
-
A quiet space for contemplation, prayer and remembrance.
-
A designated space for the remains of members and family of CCC.

It will be a sanctuary for all.

The Sanctuary and Memorial Garden will extend our worship space beyond the walls of our beautiful and historic church. It will encourage us to recognize the sanctity and beauty of the created world, learn from its wonders and deepen our relationship with God. Whether for quiet meditation or prayer, communal worship, commemorative services or Sunday School classes, the garden will be a space of welcome and peace, bringing worship into nature and nature into worship.
The garden has been designed and will be constructed in a manner consistent with our commitment to being good stewards of the earth. Sustainable landscaping practices will be employed using a variety of native plants that are attractive to pollinators and people alike. Biodiversity and careful consideration of the ecosystem will help alleviate plant diseases and pests and reduce maintenance.
For eighteen months the S&MG task force has worked diligently and enthusiastically to create a design for the garden. With the approval of our church Cabinet and some generous donations, landscape architect Cynthia Knauf was hired to help make the dream of a garden a real plan. Feedback and suggestions from the congregation have been vital and integral in the garden’s evolution.
We invite you to be a seed donor in planting and nourishing this sanctuary and memorial garden.
